Welcome to Carbs & Curbs
Hi, I’m Ofer – the heart (and hands) behind Carbs & Curbs.
I was born and raised in Israel, and that is where I also studied architecture and worked in the field for a few years, until life took me to other worlds, somewhere between Israel and Denmark, the USA and back to Denmark. On this journey, which started about a decade ago and is still ongoing, I found two passions that have since accompanied me: baking and people. At some point along the way, I also trained formally as a pastry chef — though I never worked in the field. Maybe it was always meant to be my backup plan, or maybe it was just the natural outcome of someone who loves pastries a little too much for his own good.
I returned to Copenhagen two years ago — a city I had come to know and love. Armed with both my pastry education and my endless curiosity for flavors, I started to combine my worlds: the flavors of Israel, the Middle East, and my East-European roots, together with the Danish traditions of pastries and food. On a journey of self-discovery, I found a city that is inviting and rich with culture, food and a great deal of Hygge.
In my personal life, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a balanced mind, and I’m very interested in sustainability, things that don’t always coexist with baking and food-making, but I promise to try to do and share anything I know about maximizing the use of ingredients, using organic ingredients and avoiding food waste.
Beyond the kitchen, I love roaming the city — discovering the less-touristy sides like interesting streets, hidden cafés, colorful neighborhoods, and layers of history and architecture. Friends often ask me to show them Copenhagen through my eyes, and I realized that there is a wide variety of stories I can tell and experiences I can share with you, sometimes through streets and buildings, sometimes through pastries, and often at the intersection of the two.
This is in fact how the website and blog Carbs & Curbs was born - a combination of culinary experiences, city tours, and stories that connect food and culture.
And yes — I like eating pastries almost as much as making them, which sometimes feels like an occupational hazard. Whether you join me for a workshop, a walking tour, or simply read a story on the blog - my goal is to make you feel at home here, through the taste, the smell, and the stories.
Come discover Copenhagen — one bite, and one street at a time.
